Bourdon Tube is an elastic type pressure gauge. It is a circular cross sectional tube like structure. When this tube is bending to another shape or a side, it returns to its original shape. Normally a bourdon tube is bent in a c shape or an arc shape. The type of bourdon tube varies according to their usage or application. One end of the tube is connected to the socket such that through this the pressure connection is given. An adjustable link is connected to the tip and a segment lever is connected to this adjustable link. The segment lever is constructed such that its length can be varied accordingly.
The segmented lever is connected to the sector which is meshed with the pinion which is mounted in the spindle. This spindle holds the pointer. The tip travel should be in a linear motion. If any compound stress is attained in the bourdon tube then the tip may not travel in a linear motion. The arrangement of the tube is such that the force should expand in the outer surface and the force should compress in the inner surface of the bourdon tube. The elastic characteristics of the bourdon tube give a adequate repeatability to the material. The normal material used in the bourdon gauge is Monel, silicon bronze, inconel, phosphor-bronze, celexa birth defects etc. The bourdon tube also has a hysteresis elemental the given pressure. The dead weight tester is an instrument which is often used for the calibration of the bourdon gauge.
